If you have not noticed, the web site is shiny and new. It has a whole new look and underneath it has been completely rewritten. Many hours have been spent to make this the best high school football site around. One of the biggest changes to our site this year is the Email Notification System. We have put in place a new package that will hopefully prove to be much more dependable. If you are a parent or student, it is very important that you subscribe to the new email system. Even if you were on the list last year, you must subscribe again, you can unsubscribe at anytime. Take some time and look around the site and send feedback if you have it.

Required Game Program Ads Are Due

In our parent meeting in the spring, all parents in attendance were advised that any player participating in Jaguar Varsity or Junior Varsity football in 2008 would be required to sell a minimum of the equivalent of a half page ad in our 2008 Gameday Program. A half page ad costs $125. These ads are due by August 1, 2008. The Gameday programs will be in full color this year and should meet or exceed the quality of our 2007 program, one of the nicest in the state of Mississippi. Any player who does not sell his required ads will be required to pay their fair share to the DCHS Touchdown Club to cover the player’s costs of football game shoes, eleven pre-game meals, gatoraid at halftime and other incidentals. The school does not pay for these. The Touchdown Club does and the club can not cover the costs of players who don’t pay their fair share. If you have any questions about the ads or paying your fair share, contact Tim Brantley at 901-268-5304.

Membership fee for 2008/2009 school year is $50.00 per family which includes a yard sign for each player and a re-loadable Kroger gift card so you can support your Jaguar football team throughout the year! Each Kroger gift card is preloaded with $5.00 and is associated with the DCHS Football Touchdown Club.

Next time you are at Kroger, take a minute to load the gift card you received from the booster club at Customer Service. Then simply use your Kroger gift card to pay for each purchase and the DCHS Football Touchdown Club will receive 5% of each sale all year long!! Parent Meeting a Success

A mandatory parent meeting for all football players and their parents was held on Thursday night, April 17th, in the DCHS school cafeteria. Ninety-nine players attended the meeting and 92 of them brought at least one parent along. Coach Purnell introduced his coaching staff, team trainer and team physician. He also covered the spring and summer schedule and informed all in attendance that everyone is required to attend 30 of the 34 summer workouts. Those who do will have their names on the back of their jerseys this fall. Those who don’t will not. In addition, those who don’t will lose the rights to their jersey number. Coach Purnell also announced that there is a renewed dedication among the coaching staff and their feelings are that the Jaguars have a chance to be a team to be reckoned with this coming fall.

Spring Jamboree May 15 at Center Hill High School

The 2008 DCHS Jaguar Football Team will participate in a Spring Jamboree at Center Hill High School on May 15. The event starts at 4:15 PM with the Junior Varsity playing against Center Hill, Lake Cormorant and North Pontotoc. Immediately following the JV games the varsity will scrimmage against Center Hill varsity and North Pontotoc varsity. Directions to Center Hill High School are as follows:

From Highway 78

Take the Bethel Road/Hackscross Road Exit. Go north toward Goodman Road which is the 2nd traffic light. Take a right onto Goodman Road/Highway 302. Go one block about 1/2 mile and turn left onto Polk Lane. Go 1.5 miles on Polk Lane and turn right onto Kirk Road. Follow Kirk Road for 1 mile to the 4 way stop. You will be in front of the school. The Gym is located at the back of the school and is accessible from the student parking lot on the west side of the building. Football teams and bands should park in the drive between the school and the football stadium. Visitor parking for football games is located on the North end of the stadium.

From Interstate 55

Take the Highway 302/Goodman Road Exit toward Olive Branch. Continue on Highway 302 passing Hackcross Road. Go one block about 1/2 mile and turn left on Polk Lane. Spring Football Practice Begins April 24

DCHS Head Football Coach, Chris Purnell, announced this week that Spring Football practice will begin on Thursday, April 24. In addition, Coach Purnell announced that the Jaguars will participate in a Spring Jamboree on May 15 at Center Hill High School in Olive Branch. The Jags will play two halves, one against Center Hill and the other against North Pontotoc.

Once again, we are asking the senior parents to do a memory board for your senior. Memory Boards (project board) can be purchased from any office supply store or craft store. We are getting together Monday, Jan. 14th at the Scrapbook Store on Church Road (in front of NWCC) at 6:30 p.m. Please your bring your own supplies but some supplies will available for purchase. We will also be getting together on Tuesday, Jan. 15th at 6:30 and the 17th at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Andrea White. If you have any questions please call at 662-404-1019. Also, if you need any help several mothers have volunteered to help out! Thanks so much & we hope to see you on the 14th!

The Football Banquet will be Monday, January 21st, 2008 at Desoto Hills Baptist Church. The Banquet will begin at 7:00 p.m. Players and Cheerleaders are free. All tickets will be $ 12.00. Graham Media is now taking orders for copies of the four broadcasted games from the 2007 season. Single game copies of the Jaguar’s games with Southaven, Olive Branch, Horn Lake and Hernando are priced at $40.00 each plus $5.oo shipping. If you order more than one the shipping charge is the same, $5.00. However, if you order all four videos the price is $120.00 plus the shipping. Floyd Graham suggests that if you can wait until he can get together enough orders he can deliver them all at once to the school and save you the shipping. All major credit cards are accepted. Jaguars Fall In Season Finale

The DCHS Jaguars ended their 2007 season on Thursday, November 8th, falling to the number one ranked team in Mississippi, South Panola, by a score of 45-21. The game was much closer than the final score indicated. The Jaguars, playing without the services of over a dozen regular players, stood toe to toe with the number three ranked team in the nation, for a full 60 minutes. The Tigers offense could never get untracked in its normal style against the young Jaguars, who often bent but never broke against all odds.

Jaguars Shine in Jamboree. Defeat Oxford 10-7

Coach Chris Purnell’s Jaguar football team traveled to Oxford to take on the Chargers, August 23rd, at Hemingway Stadium on the campus of The University of Mississippi. Showing a real estate chomping offense and a stingy defense, the Jags came out on top 10-7. The Jag offense lined up with two tight ends in a power formation and literally rammed the ball down the throats of the Chargers. Junior Fullback, Antonio Briggs, carried the load up the middle gaining tough yardage, mostly carrying 5-6 Chargers defenders on his back. The Jags then went outside and off tackle with running backs, junior Trez Townes and senior Trell Watkins, in a show of dominance. When the smoke cleared and Oxford was able to get the ball back the Jaguar defense wouldn’t give an inch. Oxford’s entire offensive production occured on 3 long pass plays when the Jaguar defensive assignments broke down.

The Jags open their regular season on Friday, August 29, at Bruce. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.

New Jaguar Offensive Lineman

The DCHS football team has added a new player as of today with the arrival in town of Vail Scott Perkins, a 9 pound 4 ounce offensive lineman. Early reports are that young Vail will be wearing the number 00 (double ought) and will be lining up at center (as in the new center of his parent’s life). Vail checked in at 5:54 PM. The word is that Vail and his mom, April, are doing fine. Rumor has it that Vail’s dad, Scott Perkins, is a little wobbly tonight and therefore will not be able to man his normal position as Color Analyst for the Jaguar Radio Network this week.
